Day of the Panoramic Platforms

An 11 km day from Mogilitsa taking in the ancient Tipitse cave dwelling, the Lisa Gora tower and The Peak glass viewpoint, through forest and meadow.

The day

  • Tipitse cave dwelling
  • Lisa Gora tower
  • The Peak viewpoint

This 11 km day, with about 500 metres of ascent, links two viewpoints and an ancient cave dwelling. It starts at Shirok Most in Mogilitsa, the site of an old Roman bridge.

The first stop is the Tipitse cave, a horizontal marble cave used as shelter from the Early Bronze Age through the Middle Ages, and home to cave bears more than 12,000 years ago. Next is the Lisa Gora tower, 19 metres tall, with a view over most of the Central Rhodopes, the southernmost point of Bulgaria, two Greek mountains, a small part of Pirin, and 22 villages and hamlets.

The day also takes in The Peak viewpoint, a glass-floored platform set about 350 metres above the river. The walk runs through alternating forest and meadow.

What to bring. Comfortable hiking shoes and season-appropriate clothing, plus a small backpack with water, food and a raincoat. Trekking poles optional. Mountain insurance is highly recommended, and the guides are happy to help you arrange it.
